The Carnival of Bormio is the oldest Alpine Carnival in Italy.
Also known as the Carnevàl di Mat, the inhabitants of our beautiful mountain town are already placing bets on who will be elected the next Podestà dei Matti (Mayor of the Fools).
Grand parades of allegorical floats and costumed groups, the traditional greasy pole challenge (palo della cuccagna), and stalls with local delicacies—including the unmissable polenta dei poveri—make it a time when even grown-ups can feel like kids again.
